It has been awhile since I have written anything on my teams blog so I decided tonight that I would take a few moments to re-live some of the moments from our Championship run. First off, congrats to Jimmy Rollins, Jake Peavy, and Ryan Braun for winning awards this off season.
Rollins won the NL MVP award, Peavy the CY Young award, and Braun won the Rookie of the Year award. The triple crown!!! I am not sure if any team has ever had all three winners on their roto team but it's a first for any of my teams and it also puts a nice finishing touch to my teams spectacular year.
I know that the players had a huge impact on my Championship but the draft strategy that I used and stuck with throughout the draft paid huge dividends. I don't want to give away any of my strategies as I will try to implement some of those during the 2008 season but the biggest success was the emergence of Ryan Braun.
Braun was a very late round draft pick and I had been waiting to throw his name out until I knew that no one else needed a third basemen. I brought him out for $1 and crickets were heard throughout the war room. After I got him, a few owners noted that they had hoped to get him in the reserve draft. I had beaten them to the punch. He will definitely be kept for that price for many years to come and with the move to the outfield he becomes even more valuable.
That is it for now. Catchers and pitchers report in less than a month.
