Dormant no more...

It's been almost two years since I last posted.  A lot has happened in the world of team FKAky but to recap it all would take too much away from reviving this blog.  So I will just pretend that the past two years never happened (minus the birth of my second and soon to be third daughter).

So I can't just completely ignore the past two seasons...so I am just going to recap the past two season in as few words as possible.  Here it goes:

2011 Season - Runner up.  (but I'm holding the league trophy hostage).
2012 Season - Cup winner as the 8th seed.  First 8th seed to win the cup.

Here is to winning in 2013.

Strasburgh debut at AAA tonight

Good luck to Strasburgh tonight in his first AAA start of the season. He will be limited to 6 innings or 80 pitches which ever comes first. If he is brillant will the Nationals call him up? Hopefully they will but most likely an early June callup will occur.

He should make an immediate contribution for Team FKAky when he does make the jump to The Show.

Week 5 forecast

Bring on Matt's IR team!

8 to 2 to 2 is the prediction. Saves are the only for sure W for Matt this week. Wins and steals will be the tied categories.

Week 4 recap

Another impressive victory for Team FKAky. 8 to 4 win! Biggest surprise of the week is that I won the saves category.

Heyward blog

I think I might have to rename this blog the Jason Heyward blog since the only thing that I ever post about is about him.

Heyward now has eight homeruns on the season. Before the draft I knew that I wanted him, during the draft I wanted him even more and my $24 bid reflected this. After the draft, as I was reviewing my team, I was relunctant that I had spent so much on an unproven player. With each homerun I am becoming less worried about his price and so far seems to be a bargain player at $24.

Here's to the Kraken!

Stanton going off in minors

Mike Stanton hit another homerun today. He has nine homeruns in nine days. He has 13 on the season. That crazy insane!

Since the Marlin's outfield isn't producing at all it should be a matter of days before he gets called up. For $1 he could be the next Ryan Braun for Team FKAky.

Heyward hits 5th homeruns

The Braves are playing pathetic baseball right now but Jason Heyward is starting to heat up. He went deep for the 5th time yesterday.

Ouch

My pitching staff imploded today!

Heaters prevail in week three matchup

Todd's team was victorious this time around as they won 7 to 2 to 3. Am I happy with this result? Never, but I blame myself for not blogging. You lucked out Mother Nature, you are off the hook this time (NYM vs LAD game was rained out Monday and I could have won a few more categories).

Halladay suffers first loss

As the subject implies, Uncle Roy (fellow FKAky teammates nickname for him) went down in defeat to the San Francisco Giants last night.

He went seven innings but couldn't stop the Giants after giving up three runs (gave up five ER for the game) in the first two innings and the Phillies offense never showed up, only scoring one run for him.

This presents the age old dilemia of whether or not I should be disappointed or excited. The Giants are my favorite team to follow but Uncle Roy is on my fantasy roster. This dilemia has haunted me numerous times and I have never really known how to act. What comes first or what should come first? My passion for the Giants or my passion for my fantasy roster?

My bad...

...so I didn't post a single article this past week. The outcome...a loss...2-7-3 against preseason favorite Todd. Todd's Heaters didn't particularly have a good week, they just had a better week than Team FKAky. This weeks loss can be attributed to management decision to be to busy, or too lazy, to post anything. This will not happen again. I apologize to my team and we will make it through this hard time together.

Lets getter done!!

Four Pitchers start tonight

Roy Halladay, Chris Carpenter, Oliver Perez, and Edwin Jackson all pitch tonight. I love nights like this as I usually just sit in front of the computer watch the boxscore. Unfortunately I will be away from the computer tonight doing a walk with our church. It's times like this when I wish I had the iPhone so that I could get updates where ever I am. One day.

Afternoon Bliss

Derek Lee, Ryan Braun, and Chase Utley hit homeruns in day games today.

We now have six for the week, the Slumpbusters have one.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Chase and Troy go deep

Utley went deep twice on Wednesday night and now has 6 Rbi's for the week.

Troy Glaus prooved that he still has some power as he went yard at Petco Park. Rumor has it that the ball still hasn't landed yet.

Great night for Team FKAky, 3 Hr's, 10 Rbi's, and 10 runs.

Week 2 FA pickup

Team FKAky picked up Jeremy Affeldt. Affeldt had two wins and a save in week one. Gervacio was dropped. This pick up cost $1 in FAAB.

Week 2 forecast

Week 2 is between the Yankees and the Red Sox of our Beaver Roto League, Team FKAky vs the Slumpbusters. Is my team really the Evil Empire? I doubt it but it was a fun comparison as both teams have played against each other the past two years for the Championship and we are seen as the teams to beat.

I believe that I have the edge in hitting categories this week. The Slumpbuster's didn't seem to have a productive week last week and I think it will follow them into this week. Jason Heyward will be unleashed and will contend for player of the week for week 2. 4 to 2 advantage Team FKAky.

On to the pitching categories, plus one for saves but the other categories should be a tosh up. Halladay continues his brillance after throwing a complete game. If Carpenter rebounds this week the Slumpbuster could be in trouble. 3 to 3.

7 to 5 is what I am forecasting for week 2. May the better team prevail!

Week 1 Recap

Week 1 - Jim' Beaners - outcome 8 -3 -1

Heyward puts an end to the Giants winning streak

The Braves unleashed the Kraken tonight and he responded by hitting a homerun that tied the game. The Braves road that to a 7 to 2 victory. The Giants fell to 4 and 1 on the season.

Please note that I added Jason Heyward to the homerun leaders board to the right.

Garcia stellar 1st start

Garcia had a great start for the Cards today. Check out his line from today's game:

J. Garcia (P, STL)
6 INN, 4 HA, 3 BBI, 5 K, ER, 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, W, 2 K-BB

Friday, April 9, 2010

Grand Slam!

Chris Young launched a grand slam tonight. He now has two homeruns on the week and looks like he might have been a draft day bargain at $10.

Homeruns

Chase Utley and Derek Lee smashed their first homeruns of the season tonight.

On the lighter side, great extra innings comeback from the Giants today. 4 and 0! Hum baby!

Strasburg to start AAA on Sunday

I can't wait to have this guy active. From what I have seen and heard this guy is going to be a future stud. Let's hope that he gets 120+ innings in the majors this year. I think he will be up around June 1st and that is also being stated by the fantasy experts.

Weekly matchup updates

Something new that I want to incorporate this season is biweekly matchup updates. My plan is to have an update going into the matchup, a mid week update, and a final update each week.

Since I have already neglected the update leading up to week one, I thought that I would just skip ahead to the mid week update. So here it goes.

Midweek Update:
Jim's Beaners is the opponent this week. So far this has been an interesting matchup. I hate going up against any team that has Albert Pujols and Jim has him once again. Pujols went off the first day, hitting two dingers and my team has been playing catch up ever sense. Hopefully he won't do any further damage any time soon.

The pitching and hitting matchup is pretty even so far (minus the save category). I never take much out of week one because the majority of my draft consists of players that aren't in the show yet (ie Strasburgh, Stanton, and Bumgarner). My reserve players have been going off and I can't wait to incorporate them into my lineup next week. Bowker, Hairston, and Robertson so far have been nice picks and will be activated for next week.

On the injury front, it didn't take long for Gervacio to land on the DL. Meyer should be a decent replacement option and if Nunez keeps blowing saves, he could find himself in that role soon.

Outcome:
I am hoping to pull a 6 to 6 tie this week.

Heyward goes deep!

Jason Heyward's first at bat was a memorable experience. He would take Carlos Zambrano deep for a three run homerun in the first. Congrats and welcome to the show!

Carpenter and Halladay shine in debuts

Roy Halladay went 7 strong innings today, giving up 1 ER, and striking out 9. The Phillies went on to kill the Nationals 11 to 1. Halladay got my blood a boiling in the first inning after he gave up what would be his run. He simmered down and played like the player that I had envisioned.

Chris Carpenter went 6 innings and gave up 2 ER's. Both runs were off of homeruns. He gave up a total of seven homeruns last year so that is a bit concerning. He would strike out three but wouldn't allow a walk.

Overall it was a great day for my ace's. I paid big dollars for them during the draft. Something that I don't normally do on pitching. In the past, I usually go for three $20 pitchers but this year I wanted to the two best available pitchers. They would come at a steep price and that also meant that I wouldn't be nailing down a closer.

Three more day!!

I can hardly believe that my fantasy baseball league draft is on Saturday. I have can't wait. The drive down to Corvallis on Saturday will be EPIC. I plan on rocking out the whole way. Not sure what time I will be heading down though. I think I might have to leave around 5:30 or so. That should be easy since I have been getting up to go to work at 2 am this week.

One more day of work and then I am off Friday...fantasy baseball cramming here I come!

One for the thumb!

Over the years I have had some pretty insane ways of deciding my keepers for my main fantasy baseball league. I have thrown darts, drawn them out of hats, played numerous simulations seasons, but this year was pure madness. I went with what I thought was the best bang for my buck. Listed below is the reason behind the madness.

Ryan Braun has been the cornerstone of my team for the past three years. I drafted him for a $1 in 2007. before he made it to the show, and he has since lead me to three consecutive championships. Will this year be the fourth? I hope so and for $11 he should produce another stellar season and should bring back value of around $40.

Chase Utley is a stud. Enough said. I kept him for $36 which may seem high but that could/should be a bargain. Looking at who was already taken, I had the feeling that Utley might become way over priced during the draft. I thought that if I didn't keep him, as he was the only true big name player left on the board, (Albert Pujols, Hanley Ramirez, Ryan Braun, Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Tim Lincecum, and Matt Kemp...all gone) he would surely have gone for $40+ on draft day, we will never know but we shall see how high David Wright goes.

Pablo Sandoval, aka as Kung Fu Panda. What an epic nickname! The guy is big and plays big. For $19 he will man my corner position as he has eligibility at both first and third base. Playing for the Giants might not be the best situation for him but he should still go off. I saw him go for $30 in the LABR draft, so I know I am not the has a man crush on him.

Troy Glaus....for $1. He is just a year removed from 27 homeruns and 99 Rbi's. Injuried for the majority of last season, he only had 29 AB's, he should be a candiate for comeback player of the year and should produce 20 homeruns and 70 Rbi's easily batting third for the Braves.

Luis Castillo...for $1. 20 stolen bases and 75+ runs isn't bad for a dollar. I am happy with him being on my Extra Value Menu.

2009 Season Begins!

Opening day is here and last night was the 2009 Beaver Roto League draft. The draft lasted late into the night but I won't complain too much since Jim was in Spain (9 hours difference).

Team FKAky is looking to three peat and we believe that we are the early favorite after our keepers. Will we keep this edge after the draft? Over the next few days, I will be doing a draft break down of each position (OF, MI, CI, C, P) offering detailed analysis on what I did and the rest of the madness. Enjoy!

Team FKAky is in the Finals and they are playing the Slumpbusters. After one week of action Team FKAky has an 8-3-1 lead. One more week to go!

Playoffs start...Team FKAky gets rest

The regular season is complete and the playoffs started this past week. Luckily for Team FKAky we put together a late surge and gained the 3rd seed. This means that they wont have to play the Slumpbusters until the make it to the finals. The extra two weeks off will hopefully bring our team back up to full strength when they return to action they will be playing Dan's team. Dan's team has just suffered two major blows, losing Orlando Hudson and Carlos Lee to injuries yesterday.

Below is the playoff bracket.
