Over the past two weeks, two stud pitchers have been traded to the National League which makes them eligible to be picked up by any of the ten teams that is willing to shell out the money to get them. The two pitchers are CC Sabathia and Rich Harden. I was excited to land CC as he was the first player traded but soon after making a deal to get more FA money I was out bid as another team decided that he wanted him more. WAIT!!! As I was frustrated because I thought that we got out bid I realized that we would have to wait one more week to land him as CC hadn't officially pitched for his new team therefore making him not available to be picked up. We have a rule that stats that you can't pick up a player until he plays in a game. Since CC hadn't pitched I had another week to work some magic. Lets just keep it short and say that the next week came along and I was not able to work out a deal without the other team matching me. As the other team made another trade for more FA money, I knew I had to be happy with Rich.
I ended up trading Randy Johnson, Yunel Escobar, and Jose Valverde to the Poppers and in return I got Kaz Matsui, Andy LaRoche, and $34 in FA spending. I was hoping to land last years AL Cy Young award winner but luck was not on my side. I am still happy that I got a solid pitcher and I am keeping my fingers crossed that he stays healthy for the playoffs. I was also happy that I got to keep the foundation of my offense.
Lets hope that this puts Team FKAky over the top and into a repeat championship. The regular season only has three weeks left and we are hoping to land a bye for the first two weeks in order to get healthy.
